Sucker Project: A Personal Story
Witnessing Can Be Fun
By Carrel Duvall
Last Sabbath afternoon it was such a beautiful day I decided to go for a walk. Thinking about the Native Ministries training project presented at church recently, I made a cute little box to hold the suckers we planned to sell as a church project to buy play ground equipment. I decided to take some suckers with me as I walked in hopes that the Lord would help me meet people. I prayed as I walked and did meet people outside washing their cars, cleaning out garages, doing yard work, etc. I stopped to say hello and explain my project. The response I received truly amazed me. People I had never met before went out of their way to buy my suckers; some just gave me money toward the project. I decided to try knocking on a few doors. After walking only 2 or 3 blocks from my street I had sold the entire bag of 60 suckers and met many wonderful people. Not only was selling suckers a financial blessing, but I was also blessed because of talking with people about our church and even invited several to visit. I’ve discovered that the sucker project is a wonderful way to meet people, make friends, witness, and earn money to fund our church playground equipment. What a blessing. I discovered that witnessing can be fun.
