Evangelism projects started early in 2009 for Native Ministries when Elder Bruce Wilkinson, North American Division Outreach Training Director, gave a four hour presentation during the Division Ministries Conference held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. A weekend outreach seminar was also held the following week for the Myrtle Beach Seventh-day Adventist church. With enthusiasm the church board embraced four outreach projects outlined by Elder Wilkinson called "Project: Win a Friend". These projects are designed to train, motivate, and encourage willing lay people to participate in community outreach. Church board members seized the opportunity to build a caring, reliable SDA reputation within the community by unanimously adopting all four projects.
Elder Ken Crawley, Pastor of the Myrtle Beach SDA church, was enthusiastic about working closely with local county officials, implementing SDA seminars and services within the area. He feels there are many Native people within close proximity of the church that could benefit from services and seminars. Together, Elder Wilkinson and Elder Crawley sat with local civic leaders and discussed future SDA service projects.
After a weekend of training, the community responded positively to church lay members involved in outreach. Participating members thoroughly enjoyed the outreach exersize and are planning to follow up on all community interests that indicated a desire to attend SDA programs. God is blessing the efforts of Native Ministries to effectively train and equip lay members to labor for Him!
