Elder Bruce Wilkinson, North American Division Outreach Training Director, visited Ames Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Iowa/Missouri Conference and held a community evangelism seminar. Being close to the Sac and Fox Nation of Tama, Iowa, our seminar proceeded in the three-church district outside of the Nation. Friday evening he shared with us a testimony of his first experiences with God, including his conversion as God directed his path while in military service. It was very interesting and a compelling story which encouraged us greatly. For me, it wiped away recent doubts I’d been having and also gave me confidence realizing the Lord will always be with me, directing as I witness.
On Sabbath morning Elder Wilkinson spoke of three possible reactions a person may have to rejection, showing Bible verses of how we should deal with them. Sabbath afternoon was a wonderful meeting as Elder Wilkinson shared Project Win-A Friend. A very clear outline explaining four simple community outreach projects was presented. He led us step-by-step through each outreach, answering any questions the audience had. A mock survey was held preparing us to do real surveys.
The conference was very educational and encouraging. I left with confidence and a clear understanding that we could easily take on any of the outreaches to help both our community and church. I’m very excited about the projects we are starting in our churches! Elder Wilkinson was a huge help and it was a blessing having him.
