The students chose and were assigned into the various areas of needed ministry. Gregory Fuentes with the help of our Bible Teacher, began the arduous task of putting sermons together that would appeal to a primarily Native American audience.
We then made two 5 day exploratory trips with a contingent of students and staff which canvassed and gave out questionnaires to the area. This gave us a better understanding of the needs and thinking of the people there. On March 1, 2007, thirty five young people and staff arrived at the Chickasha, SDA church and set up (a very snug) “camping like” headquarters there.
We attempted to maintain daily schedules involving exersize, academic classes and field trips in the mornings and visitations with door to door work in the afternoons. Just taking showers for 35 people took 2 hours a day (there were only 2 showers available for boys and 2 showers available for girls). The girls showers were around 1 mile away and the showers for boys were 18 miles away ( both vans were quite busy) throughout the day and nights.
The students were trained into teams to enable their involvement in Greeting, Registration, Ushering, Music Ministry, PA set up and quality control, Prayer Ministry, Health Talks, Transportation Ministry, Children’s Division skills and individualized training for our Student Evangelist.
There were many challenges through out the course of the meetings. One of which was the time consuming daily set up and take down which was neccesitated by the motel’s use of the same facilities during the day. “Temptations Restaurant” is right next to the meeting hall. Their background music and restaurant “noise” was distracting and filtered into the meetings from time to time. Malfunctioning PA equipment or computer visuals were corrected with the Lord’s help.
